Try the complete hand movement
Imagine opening the case while seated at a desk with one hand occupied. Is there a clear edge to lift, and can you grasp each earbud without touching its controls? A very smooth, shallow recess can be awkward even when the case looks compact. If possible, try removing and replacing the earbuds several times rather than judging the hinge from one opening.
Look at the case in the pocket or bag compartment where it will travel. Rounded corners may fit a narrow pocket comfortably, while a wide lid may need more clearance when open. Compare dimensions with a familiar object instead of relying on a product image that has no scale. Include any protective cover you intend to use.
Leave room for charging
Find the charging port’s location and check whether the cable can connect while the case sits in its normal position. A port underneath may require placing the case on its side. If wireless charging is supported, check the specified charger compatibility and positioning instructions. A decorative cover can change how easily the case sits on a pad, so test the final arrangement.
Make charging visible
Learn what the indicator describes: the case battery, an individual earbud, or the current charging process. These are not interchangeable. After returning the earbuds, confirm that both are seated correctly and that the expected indicator appears. If one regularly fails to charge, inspect the seating and follow the manufacturer’s cleaning guidance for the contacts rather than pushing harder.
Replacement ear tips can alter case fit. Test the lid and charging behavior with the tips you actually wear. The case should close normally without compressing the earbuds into place. Keep charging accessories in a consistent location so a nearly empty case does not become an unexpected interruption at the start of a listening session.
Plan for the small parts
Check whether a replacement case or single earbud is available for the exact model and what pairing procedure is required. Do not assume a used case with a similar shape will work. Consider whether you can easily distinguish left and right earbuds in low light. These everyday details deserve attention alongside playback specifications because the case will be handled before and after almost every use.
