Check what can actually be removed

Look up the speaker model and inspect its manual. A grille that appears separate may be bonded or secured from inside the cabinet. Do not pull at its edge just because another speaker uses magnetic mounts. If removal is permitted, follow the stated method and put the panel somewhere it will not be bent or stepped on.

Plan the work with the speaker powered down and disconnected as its instructions require. Clear the surrounding shelf first so that cleaning the cabinet does not push it toward the edge. A tall speaker or wall-mounted unit may need a different access arrangement from a small desktop model.

Keep the driver surfaces out of the cleaning routine unless the manufacturer specifically provides instructions for them. A grille protects components that can be much more fragile than the outer cabinet. A visible mark on a cone is not an invitation to rub it with the same cloth used on the case.

Match the tool to the surface

Sonos illustrates why model-specific advice matters: its general guidance uses a soft lint-free cloth, while certain fabric-covered models have a separate cleaning method. Instructions for one fabric grille should not become a universal recommendation for every speaker. Check whether your model permits a brush or vacuum before bringing either close.

For an approved dry-cloth routine, use a clean cloth without abrasive debris. Keep separate cloths for furniture polish and audio equipment so that residue is not transferred inadvertently. Work gently and stop if the surface catches the fabric or a decorative finish begins to change.

Avoid spraying cleaner through perforations or onto a grille. Liquid can travel beyond the surface you can see. A stubborn stain may require manufacturer advice, and an acceptable cosmetic mark is preferable to introducing an unapproved solvent into the assembly.

Reduce the next buildup

Clean the shelf or stand while keeping dust away from the exposed speaker. Leave ventilation clear when returning equipment to position, and check that no cloth or cleaning accessory remains underneath it. If the grille was removed, refit it with the specified orientation and fastening method.

A short periodic inspection is easier to manage than aggressive cleaning after a long buildup. Note whether dust collects because the speaker is beside an open window, under a frequently used shelf or near a workshop area. Changing its surroundings may reduce cleaning work without covering ventilation or altering its listening position unnecessarily.
