Fit the filter to the stand arrangement
Check where the filter’s clamp can attach and whether its arm reaches the intended position. A narrow microphone arm tube and a thick stand shaft may need different clamp ranges. The filter should stay in place without requiring excessive tightening. Avoid attaching it where it interferes with a boom joint or prevents the stand from balancing correctly.
Leave space between the filter and microphone according to the product’s guidance. Pressing the filter against the grille defeats the purpose of a controlled arrangement and can transmit bumps. Confirm that the performer can read a script and see necessary controls without repeatedly moving the filter aside.
Test the words that cause trouble
Record a short phrase containing p and b sounds at the intended speaking level. Listen to the recording rather than relying on the sound heard directly in the room. A low-frequency burst may be more obvious on playback. Compare the same phrase after a small position adjustment, keeping the microphone and performer relationship otherwise consistent.
If bursts remain, try a modest angle change so the strongest breath path does not point straight into the capsule. Follow the microphone’s intended speaking direction and avoid moving so far off-axis that the voice becomes inconsistent. The filter is an aid, not a guarantee that every position and delivery style will work equally well.
Use it as a reference without touching it
The filter can provide a visual cue for maintaining distance, but do not rest your mouth against it. Keep it stable and leave room for natural movement. If the performer regularly brushes it, move the assembly or choose a different mounting arrangement rather than accepting repeated contact noise.
Clean the filter using its material-specific instructions and allow it to dry before storage or reuse. Inspect the frame and mesh for damage, particularly after transport. A bent arm that drifts during a take is a positioning problem worth fixing before recording. Once the arrangement works, note the filter-to-microphone and performer positions so the next session starts from a repeatable setup.
