Check load and support dimensions
Compare the keyboard's weight and depth with the stand's stated capacity and usable support area. Include attached accessories only where the stand maker permits them. A high load rating does not guarantee that a narrow instrument will sit securely on widely spaced arms, or that a deep keyboard will be supported in the intended places.
Inspect the underside of the keyboard for feet, vents and any designated mounting points. The stand should contact suitable surfaces without pressing on a panel or leaving a foot balanced on an edge. Follow model-specific instructions when a piano is designed to attach to a particular frame.
Set the height before judging stability
Open and lock the stand at your actual playing height. Some designs change their support width as height changes, so a fit at one setting may not predict another. Place the keyboard carefully, secure any required restraints and check for rocking with ordinary playing pressure. Do not use the instrument itself to force an incompletely opened stand into position.
Sit at the intended bench and check knee clearance. Cross-braces, adjustment knobs or lower rails can interfere with seated playing. Put the sustain pedal in place too. A stable stand is still inconvenient if it forces your feet into a position that makes the pedal difficult to use.
Plan setup and pack-down
If the stand will be moved often, try the folding sequence with the keyboard removed. Check whether loose pins or knobs need separate storage and whether the folded frame has an awkward pinch point. A slightly heavier stand with a clear locking mechanism may be easier to manage than a lighter one that requires repeated adjustment.
Route cables so they do not pull across the support arms or catch when the bench moves. Keep power adapters in a suitable ventilated position according to their instructions. Do not hang bags or other loads from the frame unless the stand is designed to carry them.
Recheck fasteners and floor contact after moving the setup. Uneven flooring can change the feel considerably. If the stand cannot be made stable in the room without makeshift wedges or excessive tightening, choose another location or design. The goal is a repeatable support arrangement that lets you focus on playing rather than watching the keyboard move.
